This year, I have the honor of joining my Aunt's with their American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Yoakum on Friday, April 11th.
Relay for Life is the ACS's nationwide signature activity. Throughtout the night, my Aunt's & I will take turns walking the tract. After all, cancer never sleeps and neither will we.
You can help support the American Cancer Society and remember or honor a loved one by purchasing a luminary candle for $5. The votive candles are nestled in bags and lit in a glowing tribute dedicated to someone who is fighting cancer, someone who has lost their battle to cancer or to someone who has survived cancer.
Here's a little background about our MeMe:
Maude Louise (MeMe) Bishop Grubert was born on August 6, 1930 to Marvin and Angie (McClanahan) Bishop. She married Thomas Francis Grubert on October 29th, 1949.
Maude & Thomas had 9 children.

Lynn born August 27th 1951
Smoke born March 5th, 1953
Mary born March 7th, 1954
Henry born April 22nd, 1956
Kathy born November 22nd, 1957
Betty born January 25th, 1959
Nancy born March 13th, 1960
Sarah born April 6th, 1962
Thomas passed away on March 22, 1962.
MeMe passed away on May 23rd, 1997 due to cancer.
She was survived by all 9 of her children & spouses, 21 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild along with 1 brother & sister-in-law.
Shortly after her death in 1997, her daughters were given the inspiration to form the "MeMe's Crew" team to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. Every year MeMe's Crew has various fundraisers to help support the team at the Yoakum Relay for Life.
Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event that celebrates surviorship and raises money for research. As a particpant, we are able to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and get empowered to fight back against a disease that takes so much.
Any money you donate is a tax-deductible contribution to the American Cancer Society.
